Hillridge Farms 2010

We headed back to Hillridge Farms in Youngsville, NC this year. Last year we visited with our photographer Nicole Faby for a minishoot. This year we took the day off to just have fun. Although I felt like I was playing the part of Nicole the photographer. Does anyone else feel like you miss out on some of the fun because you are taking all the pictures. Whew and is it tiring. I feel for you guys that do this for a living.

Daddy and Lily on the Train. We didn't ride the train last year. This year it was the hit of the day. Lily talked about it all morning. She actually woke up that morning and said "I ride train today?"

In the Hay Jump. Yeah this one left us dirty. It took me all weekend to get the hay out of my hair.

Adorable shoe shots. Lily and I have been on a boot kick lately. She loves them. I got these for 5 dollars at Target and she is in love with them.

Okay this just makes me laugh. She loved "jumping" off the hay bail into the hay. This is her climbing up to "jump" off.

It took awhile to find one that was small enough for her to carry around. Michael was getting frustrated that I was taking so long. Obviously he was unaware of the precision required when picking out the perfect toddler pumpkin.

One of my favorite shots of the day. The "Mommy I am over this" shot. She just quit and sat down. Apparently her and Daddy were on the same team of Mommy your taking too long.

It was a good day. We took the whole day off of work and spent the day together. Something we haven't been able to do in awhile. A nice change of pace on a lazy fall day.

Photography 101

I have really been working on getting my Nikon DSLR off the auto setting. Getting away from editing the pictures and letting the camera do the majority of the work. Of course Lily is the only one I can make model for me so she suffers the most from my self taught experiments. So last weekend I got her out in the yard and snapped away. Some of these are straight out of the camera some are doctored...but just a little.

I am dying to upgrade my camera. Don't get me wrong I love my D40. So easy to use. But I need some more megapixels and a little more ISO capability than my D40 can offer. It is hard to justify buying a new one when I never really learned the full potential of this one. Basically this should entrall me enough to not go drop a ton of money on an upgrade.

Not too bad eh? She is getting so big so fast. And tall! Well tall is relative. She is still really short. But she can wear the same pants from last year (not these). She has only gained two pounds since last December. Which is amazing to me since she was putting on two pounds a month as a baby. Now she is just shooting up like a weed in our summer grass. Is it bad I secretly hope it slows down just like our grass does in the fall? That way she can stay sweet and small forever.

Straight out of the camera. No editing. Perfection.

So many thoughts when I see this. The first is of course how big she is now. A little lady. She is getting so tall, thinning out and that hair. Wow how it is grown. Her blue eyes are not fading at all. They remind me of my Grandma's. The bright silver blue that melts hearts. They are going to be nothing but trouble in the teenage years. She got that sticker on her hand for going potty just hours before and she managed to keep it all day. Aurora (aka Sleeping Beauty).

The second is the memory of that fall day. NCSU football tailgate. It was gorgeous all day and Lily was so good. In one week we have gotten no less than three compliments about how good Lily is. Not needy, or wild. Polite and sweet. She just entertains herself and interacts with people flawlessly from one person to the next.

We deep fried turkeys, ate fattening tailgate food, and sat in our camping chairs for the better part of the day and into the evening. A batch of Sangria and five pounds later we lost the game. But it was still a great day. I think this picture confirms that.

We had a new baby join our group over the weekend. Libby was born on September 3, 2010. We made it up to visit them on Monday and got a good dose of baby lovies. While I was there I took a few pictures for them. I know how overwhelming parenthood is the first few days/weeks/months and one thing I always regreted was not getting some brand new baby shots. Libby is only four days on in these pictures. The perfect age for these kind of photos.

I waited until after she ate so she would pass out and be asleep in all these photos but apparently she didn't get the memo. Everyone knows when Aunt Steph is around there is a party right? So she stayed full wide awake the whole time. But it ended up working out. This just proves they are just as cute awake as they are asleep!

Meg's friend made Libby this hat which was the highlight of the day! The color was so precious.

Jealous Much?

My dear friends Meg and Craig had baby Libby this past weekend and we went to visit them on Monday. I wanted to take a few pictures for them as a special treat. Meg always loved this Nicole Faby picture so I tried by best to reinact it on Libby's bookshelf. Lily was being so sweet and queit while I snapped away.
